Blackwatch: Silent Vigil

Post by Sieg on Sat 22 Jun 2013, 3:51 pm

The planet of Gehielos is not a hospitable planet. Covered from pole to pole in Permafrost, every breath of wind carrying freezing particles of ice, constantly clouded and snowing in the best of weather, while in the worst of weather mountains are shattered by whirling snowstorms and hurricanes, only to be rebuilt by deposits of ice left in their wake.

Yet among it all, stands the great black Citadel of Blackreach. A sprawling monolith of Black Blutstahl and shimmering Silversteel, built quite literally on the blood of thousands, if not millions, built over centuries and millenia by the Blackwatch, the keepers of the Silent Vigil. Garbed all in Black, the Blackwatch are the first and last defense against the dangerous Supernatural, unnatural Beasts, and the demonic minions of the abyss. And the greatest of them all are the Vigil. Watch is rotated amongst the bulk of the Blackwatch, but the Vigil are their strongest and greatest, always keeping their watch, always at arms. Their names are set down, and they take up a mantle. The Archmage, the Hunter, the Swordsman, the Keeper. All anonymous names that echo through the halls of Blackreach.

The Vigil are the watchers and main fighters during the Silent Vigil, but it has been millennia since the last, and as such, many of them are sent off-world to resolve problems their brothers could not, or to hunt for their enemy, or kept on-world to be sent out to hunt upon Gehelios.

But for the first time in millennia, the great horns and bells within the Tower of the Black have begun their song, and the Silent Vigil has begun. Gehelios rends itself apart, exposing its black abyssal core, and the Blackwatch stand against it, so that it does not spread, and so the Silent Vigil is kept to Gehelios, its eternal curse.

=========================================================================
Blackwatch motherfuckers.

Standard Equipment: Silversteel Melee Weapon of your choice for fighting the Undead, the Supernatural and the Demonic. Dual Automatic Wristguns, firing Silversteel Hollow-point and Armour-piercing frangible rounds, deadly against all creatures of this earth and beyond. Black blutstahl weapon, again of your choice, forged of your own blood, and kept close. Anything Silversteel won't kill, it will.

Silversteel is a silvery, steel-like material. Strong, malleable, and deadly against all supernatural creatures.

Blutstahl is Silversteel that has been forged with blood, linking it with the lifeforce of the person whose blood was used to make it. As the person grows in strength, so too does the Blutstahl weapon or armour. Or, in the case of the Blackwatch, the walls of Blackreach, which are linked to all members and in particular the Vigil. To anyone else the armour feels too heavy too wear and too fragile to want to, and the weapons too clumsy and unbalanced and unlikely to cut butter, yet to the person it was forged for the armour is light as a feather and hard as diamonds, and the weapons perfectly weighted and balanced, and able to cut through near anything when they reach their peak.

Now we need other background shit.

Sci-Fi Fantasy mix, for reference.

New Blurby thing

Gehielos. A cold, inhospitable tundra land. Nothing grows in the permafrosted soils, mountains rise and fall overnight under the fierce wolfwinds of ice and hurricane, water never flows, permanently frozen into beautiful and terrible sculptures. The planet is home to few. Daemons, Vampires, Werewolves, a few scarce Carnivorous or Autotrophic Animals.

And the Blackwatch. In the great Blackice and Blutstahl Citadel of Blackreach. A sprawling monolith, forged over millenia, standing strong against the elements and against all Daemon and Supernatural, its walls forged from ice compacted into superdense Blackice, and from Blutstahl, forged from the very blood of every man and woman of the Blackwatch. As each man and woman grows in strength within Blackreach, Blackreach itself becomes stronger. The entire Citadel is alive, with a supernatural heartbeat that pumps hot ferrous fluid through the walls to heat the Citadel, and it whispers in the night, singing under the moonlight to each man and woman who has joined the Watch.

But once every few Millenia, Blackreach screams, before giving a loud roar of challenge, the bells and horns ofthe Tower of Black sounding their song and call. The sound reverberates through the very bones of every member of the Blackwatch, be they on Gehielos, or on a different world, calling them home to stand the Silent Vigil, as the Sun Gehielos orbits turns black, the moon forever rising, and the earth itself tearing asunder to reveal the planet's shifting black core, a portal to the Daemonic realms.

And from within the Blackwatch emerge the Vigil. The strongest, keenest, and wisest of them, sent out only to hunt the most dangerous of foes, but called back to Blackreach and Gehielos on the Dawn of the Silent Vigil, where they shall stem the Daemonic Tide, and give their lives so that it can not spread.

I like it.

The core of the planet, is it the only way in from other realms, or are there other methods of a scale that is less massive, such as possession and individual summoning by practitioners of whatever dark arts there are?

How diverse should the demonic beings that emerge from these realms be, and how intelligent can they get? Just some questions to think upon.

Well, we wouldn't have any Daemons to hunt during downtime if we couldn't have possessions and individual summons, now would we? Mages are the worst for this, as tapping into Demonic Realms is a great way to replenish mana and cast more powerful spells with less mana cost, but it's also a great way for Daemons to leak into our world, or, gods forbid, into a Mage.

I'd say for intelligence you've got the whole beautiful, terrible spectrum, from drooling, slavering monstrosity, completely insentient and living just to breed and feed, right up to terrifyingly intelligent Dark Gods whose intelligence can overpower an entire legion with a passing thought. It's that later we're going to have to worry about with such a huge portal.

As for diversity... we shall think on it.
